Eric Boguniecki (born May 6, 1975 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach , who has worked for the Florida Panthers , St. Louis Blues , Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders in the National Hockey League was active. Since July 2011 he has been working as an assistant coach for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League .

Career

Boguniecki began his career in 1993 on the University of New Hampshire team , with whom he played in the College League Hockey East . During the NHL Entry Draft 1993 he was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the eighth round at a total of 193rd position. The trained striker finished his studies and then moved to the International Hockey League for the Fort Wayne Komets . In the summer of 1999, the right-shooter signed a contract with the Florida Panthers , which, however, mainly used him in the AHL in their farm team at the time , the Louisville Panthers . Boguniecki wore the Panthers' jersey four times.

In 2000 he was nominated for the US national team , with which he took part in the World Cup in Japan in the same year and reached fifth place. Boguniecki completed seven games for the United States team and was able to achieve an assist and a plus / minus statistic of +2.

For the 2000/01 season he moved as a free agent to the St. Louis Blues, where he was only used once. In the following years he was mainly active in the then farm team of the Blues. At the Worcester IceCats , he was one of the top strikers on the team. In the 2001/02 season he scored 84 points in 63 games. Then he got another chance to prove himself in the NHL. The 2002/03 season was extremely positive. Boguniecki was able to play in the regular squad of the Blues and completed almost all main round games. It was used 80 times and got 49 points.

During the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season , the then 29-year-old played in the Swiss National League B at SC Langenthal and then returned to the St. Louis Blues team. Further career stations were then the Pittsburgh Penguins , as well as the AHL clubs Peoria Rivermen , Syracuse Crunch and Binghamton Senators .

In the summer of 2007 the management of the ERC Ingolstadt convinced him to become involved in the German Ice Hockey League . Boguniecki signed a one-year contract. At the end of the season he received a contract offer from the Anaheim Ducks , which finally transferred him to North America for the 2008/09 season . The then 33-year-old was, however, the entire season in the roster of the Iowa Chops, the farm team of the Ducks. In the following season he went on the ice for the Alaska Aces in the ECHL . In July 2011, the American was engaged in the position of assistant coach by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers .
