Steve Washburn (born April 10, 1975 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was active six seasons in the National Hockey League and three in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Steve Washburn began his career with the Gloucester Rangers in the Canadien Junior Hockey League . In 1991 he moved to the Ontario Hockey League for the Ottawa 67’s . In the 1993 NHL Entry Draft , the Canadian was selected by the Florida Panthers in the third round in 78th place. After four years in the OHL, Washburn had scored 266 points in 253 games.
Shortly before the 1995 playoffs , he made his professional debut for the Cincinnati Cyclones in the International Hockey League . From autumn 1995 Washburn was part of the Florida Panthers organization. He played for three years for various farm teams in the American Hockey League as well as for the Panthers in the National Hockey League . In February 1999, his team put him on the waiver list, from which the Vancouver Canucks signed him . Washburn played the rest of the season for the Canucks in the NHL and the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. In August 1999, the left shooter signed a contract with the Nashville Predators as a free agent , but they sent him to the Milwaukee Admirals . Towards the end of the year Washburn was then transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers . He played with the Flyers and the Philadelphia Phantoms until his contract expired . In the summer of 2000 he then joined the Kloten Flyers from Switzerland . After only eight games, however, he returned to Philadelphia.
For the 2001/02 season , the Canadian then moved to the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League . After two seasons in the Sauerland , he joined the league rivals Hamburg Freezers . Washburn only stayed here for a year and then went on the ice for the EC KAC in Austria . After he started the 2005/06 season in Denmark , Washburn moved to the EC Graz 99ers back in the Austrian Ice Hockey League . After two years, he joined the Bietigheim Steelers at the end of the 2007/08 season . Washburn then no longer signed a contract and ended his career.
