Anders Eriksson (born January 9, 1975 in Bollnäs ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who was last under contract with MODO Hockey in the Elitserien until 2011 .
Career
Anders Eriksson started his career in his Swedish homeland with MoDo Hockey Örnsköldsvik , for whom he played from 1992 to 1995. He was selected as the 22nd player by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft . In the summer of 1995, Eriksson was appointed to the squad of Detroit's then farm team , the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League , for which he played 44 games in his first season. Also during the 1995/96 season , the Swede made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Detroit Red Wings, with whom he won the 1998 Stanley Cup . In the playoffs, Eriksson was used in 18 games.
In 1999, Eriksson was given two first-hour franchises to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Chris Chelios . During the 2000/01 season Eriksson was in 60 games for the Florida Panthers on the ice. In the summer of 2001, the defender received a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs and their AHL farm team, the St. John's Maple Leafs . In his first season for Toronto he still made 34 appearances in the NHL and for St. John on 25 in the AHL, he only played four times for Toronto in the 2002/03 season .
For the 2003/04 season Eriksson received a contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets , for which he ran 66 times. He also played in nine games for their AHL farm team, Syracuse Crunch . Before the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season Eriksson signed a contract with the Calgary Flames , but through this Eriksson returned to his home in Sweden and ran in 32 games for HV 71 Jonkoping . In the 2005/06 season Eriksson defended both for the Springfield Falcons from the AHL, as well as for the HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk from the Russian Super League . On July 2, 2006, Eriksson signed a one-year contract with his ex-club Columbus Blue Jackets.
In the summer of 2007 Eriksson got a contract with the Calgary Flames after the failed transfer in 2004 . In the summer of 2008, the Flames gave him to their farm team, the Quad City Flames from the AHL, although he was used in 61 games for Calgary in the 2007/08 season . In December 2009 he was signed by the Phoenix Coyotes , who handed him over to the New York Rangers in March 2010 . After taking part in the New York Islanders training camp in October 2010 , the Swede was initially without engagement. A month later he signed a contract with Timrå IK , for which he played six games. On December 19, 2010 Eriksson was signed by MODO Hockey . He has been without a club since the end of the season.
International
For Sweden, Eriksson took part in the Junior World Championships in 1994 and 1995, as well as the Ice Hockey World Championship in 1999 .
