Joel Melvin Prpic (born September 25, 1974 in Sudbury , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player with Croatian nationality who has played for Brentford Blast since 2012 .
Career
Joel Prpic began his career as a hockey player on the St. Lawrence University team , where he was active from 1993 to 1997. The attacker had previously been selected as a junior player in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft in the ninth round as a total of 233rd player by the Boston Bruins . For the Bruins Prpic was in the 1997/98 season his debut in the National Hockey League , where he stood in a NHL game on the ice and the entire rest of the game time at Boston's farm team , the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League , spent . With Providence he won the Calder Cup the following season .
In the 1999/2000 season he was three templates for Boston in 14 missions in the NHL, before he signed a contract as a free agent with the Colorado Avalanche in August 2000 . Both in Colorado, and then with their league rivals San Jose Sharks , the left-handed shooter could not prevail and spent the entire time with their AHL farm teams Hershey Bears and Cleveland Barons except for three games for Colorado in the 2000/01 season .
In the summer of 2002 Prpic moved to the Kokudo Ice Hockey Club (from 2006 Seibu Prince Rabbits) from the Japan Ice Hockey League , with which he won the Japanese championship in 2003 and 2004. From the 2003/04 season he also took part with Kokudo in the newly founded Asia League Ice Hockey , which he and his team won twice in a row in 2005 and 2006. After the Seibu Prince Rabbits had to withdraw from the ALIH after the 2008/09 season for financial reasons, Prpic signed with KHL Medveščak Zagreb , which had been accepted into the Austrian Ice Hockey League before the 2009/10 season . There he was one of the team's best points collectors in the first two EBEL seasons. In 2011 and 2012 he was also Croatian champion with Medveščak . In 2012 he moved to his native Ontario to join the Brantford Blast , where he has been playing ever since. With the club he won the ACH in 2013 and 2014 and was also named the most valuable player in this amateur league in 2014. In addition, the Ontario Hockey Association voted him the best senior AAA player. In 2015 he was the best template provider for the ACH.
International
For Croatia , Prpic took part in the Division II World Cup in 2012 . During the tournament he scored three goals and ten assists in five games and was recognized as top scorer and best preparer. A year later he rose as captain with the Croatian team after five wins in five games in Division I and was named the best striker of the tournament.
