Christopher Kelleher (born March 23, 1975 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player who has played for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League and the Krefeld Penguins in the German Ice Hockey League during his active career .
Career
Chris Kelleher was selected in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round at position 130 by the Pittsburgh Penguins while he was in high school playing for the St. Sebastian's Arrows . After graduating from high school, Kelleher continued his career at Boston University , where he studied and played for their ice hockey team, the Boston University Terriers, in Hockey East . In his third and last season with the Boston University Terriers, the defender was elected to the Second All-Star Team of Hockey East. In 1997 and 1998 he was nominated for the NCAA East Second All-American Team. In the 1998/99 season he went on the ice for the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League . The next two seasons spent the defender at the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , the farm team of the Pittsburgh Penguins, with which Kelleher advanced into the finals of the Calder Cup in the 2000/01 season . With 25 scorer points in the playoffs, he was the best scorer of the team that failed in six games at the Saint John Flames .
In July 2001 he signed a contract with the Boston Bruins from the National Hockey League as a free agent . In the 2001-02 season Kelleher made an NHL debut for the Bruins. This was his first and only game in the National Hockey League during his career. The American spent the rest of the season on the farm team with the Providence Bruins . The following season he was set in Providence as a regular player. After the Boston Bruins had not renewed his contract, Kelleher signed a contract in September 2003 with the Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League . In his only season in Krefeld, the defender missed the playoffs with the team. He then returned to the United States, where Kelleher signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He again played two seasons with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins before the defender moved to Linköpings HC in the Elitserien for the 2006/07 season. After 25 games and five points, he ended his career following this season.
International
Kelleher represented his home country at the Junior Ice Hockey World Championship in Canada in 1995. In seven games he scored a goal and finished fifth with the team.
