Petr Franěk (born April 6, 1975 in Most , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey goalkeeper who was active for many years at HC Litvínov , HC Energie Karlovy Vary and HC Slavia Prague from the Czech extra league. In North America he played with the Hershey Bears and the Las Vegas Thunder and in Germany with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers .
Career
Petr Franěk played the first professional games of his career in 1992 in his home country at HC Chemopetrol Litvinov . The following year he was drawn by the Québec Nordiques in the eighth round as 205th in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft .
In 1996 Franěk was nominated for the A World Championship , but was not used when the Czech national team won the gold medal . In the same year he moved to North America. First he played in the lower class CoHL , but in the same season he ran in the IHL and with the Hershey Bears in the AHL , for which he also played in 1997/98. After another season in 1998/99 with the Utah Grizzlies and Las Vegas Thunder in the IHL, he returned to Europe.
For the first time he moved to the DEL , namely to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers , but after only one season in which the Franks missed the play-offs as the reigning runner -up , he moved again to the Czech Republic.
There he only guarded the gate of HC Becherovka Karlovy Vary for three years before moving to HC Slavia Prague in 2003. But in his fourth year at the Czech capital club, the sports management was visibly dissatisfied with his performance, which is why they signed Adam Svoboda as the new number 1. Then his contract with Slavia was dissolved in December 2006 and he was hired by the Iserlohn Roosters in the DEL, where he did not receive a new contract for the 2007/08 season. He then moved back to the Czech Republic for HC Litvínov , for which he was active until the end of the 2013/14 season.
In April 2014 he had to end his career due to an injury.
