Bradley Joseph Norton (* 13. February 1975 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) is a retired American ice hockey player , active in his time between 1998 and 2008, among others, for the Florida Panthers , Los Angeles Kings and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League played . His brother Jeff Norton was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Norton was selected in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers in the ninth round at position 215 when he played for the Cushing Academy . In the summer of 1994 he went to the University of Massachusetts Amherst , which took part with its university team in the league operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .

At the end of the 1997/98 season, after he had completed his training, he moved to the International Hockey League for the Detroit Vipers , where he received his first professional contract. The Vipers made it to the final of the Turner Cup , but could not defend their title won the previous year. At the start of the 1998/99 season he was accepted into the farm team of the Edmonton Oilers, the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League , and played there for three years. However, he was never used for the Oilers in the NHL . Before the 2001/02 season , the Florida Panthers signed him and he played his first 22 games in the NHL that season, but spent most of the season in the AHL with the Hershey Bears . When his contract was not renewed, he received a trial contract with the Los Angeles Kings . Norton then played 53 NHL games in the 2002/03 season . In the following season he also played a few games for Los Angeles, but they did not want to keep him. The Washington Capitals finally accepted him into their team in March 2004.

While the 2004/05 NHL season was canceled due to the lockout , Norton paused. In autumn 2005 he was invited to the training camp of the Los Angeles Kings, but could not recommend himself for a contract. He then moved to Europe and played for Jokerit Helsinki in the Finnish SM-liiga . In December 2005, however, he left Finland again and got a contract in the AHL with the Binghamton Senators , the farm team of the Ottawa Senators . In addition to numerous appearances in Binghamton, he also played seven games for Ottawa in the NHL. After the season he was again without a contract, but the Detroit Red Wings secured the services of the free agent . Norton began the 2006/07 season in the NHL team of the Red Wings, but then injured his shoulder and was subsequently in the squad of the farm team Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. For the 2007/08 season , the San Jose Sharks signed him for a year. Due to a protracted back injury, the American stayed on the injured list for the entire season and never made a single appearance. As a result, his contract was not renewed.

Norton is considered an enforcer and likes to let his fists fly in games. As a two-way player who can be used both in attack on the wing and in defense, he had played 263 games in the AHL up to the summer of 2007, but only collected 63 points, 618 penalty minutes are a top value.
