Patrick Howald (born December 26, 1969 in Bern ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player who played in the National League A during his active career for SC Bern , HC Lugano and Friborg-Gottéron and won the Swiss championship four times with the Berners .

Career

Patrick Howald, who played in the position of the left winger, played for SC Bern in the National League A from 1986 . Howald, who had quickly established himself as a regular player, won his first Swiss championship with the Stadtberner Club in the 1988/89 season under head coach Bill Gilligan . This was followed by title wins in 1991 and 1992 . After six years in the dress of SC Bern, the left shooter left the Bernese and moved to HC Lugano , for which he played two seasons. During this time, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1993 in the eleventh round at a total of 276th position by the Los Angeles Kings . He then returned to SC Bern, with whom he won his fourth Swiss championship in 1997 . The Bernese native ended his professional career at Friborg-Gottéron from 2001 to 2005 . In total, he completed 845 NLA games and scored 305 goals and 273 assists.

The shirt number 22 of the long-time SCB striker was blocked by the club and hung under the roof of the PostFinance Arena .

International

Howald completed a total of 119 international matches for Switzerland and represented his home country at several world championships. He also took part in the 1992 Winter Olympics for the Eisgenossen , in which he played seven games and scored four goals and three assists. Switzerland finished the tournament in tenth place. His greatest success with the national team was reaching fourth place at the 1992 World Cup .
