Robert "Bob" Kilger (born June 29, 1944 in Cornwall , Ontario ) is a Canadian politician of the Liberal Party of Canada . He previously worked as a businessman and as an ice hockey player and coach .

Career

In Cornwall -born Kilger is the former Liberal MP in the House of Commons for the electoral district of Stormont-Dundas 1988-2000 and Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry 2000 to 2004. He was Chief Government Whip , Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees of the Whole of the House of Commons .

He lost his seat in the 2004 election to Conservative candidate Guy Lauzon . Kilger was elected Mayor of Cornwall on November 13, 2006 with 49.4% of the vote.

Before entering political life, he was a businessman and coached the Cornwall Royals of the Ontario Hockey League to a Memorial Cup victory in 1981 .

During his active time as a hockey player Kilger went from 1963 to 1965 for the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey Association on the ice. He was also a referee in the National Hockey League . His son, Chad Kilger, is a former NHL professional ice hockey player .
