The Church of Kaga (Swedish Kaga kyrka ) is located in the Swedish province of Östergötland County near the mouth of the Svartån River in the Roxen Lake on a plain about seven kilometers from Linköping .

The church was built on a cult site from the late Viking era . The place dedicated to all pagan gods was called "Allguvi" (dt. All gods sanctuary). It is one of the best preserved churches in Östergötland from the late Middle Ages . According to tradition, today's church building was built at the instigation of King Sverker the Elder and his wife Ulfhild in 1137, probably on the site of a previous church. From 1140 the royal couple also founded the monasteries in Alvastra , Nydala and Varnhem .

From the Romanesque church from the 12th century, parts of the nave , the choir including the apse and the tower are still preserved, which was completed at a later date. The spire was probably built in the 15th century and rebuilt in 1727 and 1750. Further additions were made in the 17th and 18th centuries. The church has a famous organ .

Inside there are wall paintings by Master Amund in the nave and by his teacher in the choir, who already painted the church of Risinge.

Runestone

The rune stone Ög 103 from the 12th century is walled into the church . The inscription reads: “ Tove built this stone for Lid-Bove, his father. ".

The Sättunahögen is about two kilometers east of the church of Kaga.
