Roxen is a lake in the Swedish province of Östergötland County north of Linköping .

location

View over the western part of Roxen from Stjärnorp to Linköping

The lake is 33 meters above sea level and has an area of 95 km². It is a typical, food-rich flatland lake, which is reflected in a rich bird life. Due to the shallow depth of the lake, which is a maximum of eight meters, there are short and high waves in strong winds.

In the west the lake is about 6 km wide and takes in the rivers Motala ström , Svartån and Stångån ( Kinda Canal ). South of the Motala Ström near Berg , the Göta Canal leads over nine locks (Bergs slussar) and a total of 40 meters in altitude in the Roxen. In the east, the width of the lake narrows to a long, narrow bay, at the end of which the Motala Ström, which here represents the further course of the Göta Canal, continues to Lake Glan .

The western part of the lake forms the Ramsar area Västra Roxen (area code 3SE051 ).
