General inspection (railway)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The inspections of railway vehicles are prescribed in Germany by the Railway Construction and Operating Regulations (EBO). In § 32 it is required that each railway vehicle must undergo an acceptance test before it is put into operation for the first time, with which the operationally safe condition is to be checked and documented. All documents related to the manufacture of the rail vehicle, such as construction drawings, calculations, material evidence, production and test reports, etc. must be submitted. Every 6 years , railway vehicles have to be regularly inspected. Depending on the condition of the vehicle concerned, this period may be extended several times per extension up to one year, to a maximum of eight years.

Recurring tests on rail vehicles in Germany are mainly carried out in the workshops of the railway companies or the vehicle manufacturers. There are also some companies that specialize in vehicle refurbishment and inspection.

Maintenance levels

The maintenance of railway vehicles is carried out in defined stages ( IS ). The time intervals are based either on fixed time periods or on the kilometers run. The following is an overview of the maintenance currently carried out by DB (as of 2017):

Connecting railway

For vehicles of factory railways , the EBO often does not apply, but the regulation on the construction and operation of connecting railways (BOA) of the respective federal state. Since this is state law, the regulations are not clear across Germany. The main inspection period is regulated in a uniform manner: an HU must be carried out every four years, extensions of a maximum of three years (i.e. to a maximum of seven years) are permitted.

Tram, subway

In the case of trams , the Ordinance on the Construction and Operation of Trams (BOStrab) applies, which prescribes an examination of the vehicles after a maximum mileage of 500,000 km (or eight years at the latest).
