The Nord University (own spelling: NORD universitet ) is the eighth state university in Norway . With effect from January 1, 2016, it emerged from a merger of the former University of Nordland and the universities of Nesna and Nord-Trøndelag.

The university is based in Bodø , with eight other locations in Vesterålen , Mo i Rana , Sandnessjøen , Nesna , Namsos , Steinkjer , Levanger and Stjørdal . As of July 2016, it employs around 1,200 people and has around 12,000 students enrolled.

The 15 lecture halls on the Bodø Campus are named after Norwegian personalities, some with a special reference to Nordland : Knut Hamsun , Stein Rokkan , Matthias Bonsach Krogh , Nanna With , Petter Thomassen , Christian Frederiksen , Vebjørn Tandberg , Gerhard Schøning , Erik Schytte , Pauline Skar , Regine Normann , Elsa Laula Renberg , Elias Blix , Petter Dass and Ole Tobias Olsen .

Faculties / departments

The North University is divided into seven faculties or departments:

  • Professional college (Profesjonshøgskolen)
  • Faculty of Teacher Education (Avdeling for lærerutdanning)
  • Department for Industry, Society and Nature (Avdeling for næring, samfunn og natur)
  • Commercial College (Handelshøgskolen)
  • Faculty of Social Sciences (Faculty for samfunnsvitenskap)
  • Department of Health (Avdeling for Helsefag)
  • Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture (Faculty for biovitenskap og akvakultur)

As a result of the merger, the faculty for teacher training is now the third largest teacher training faculty in Norway.

courses

In addition to the regular one to two-year bachelor's, four-year professional, five-year master's degree and doctoral programs, shorter courses are also offered for further training. The university also offers mixed-language (Norwegian / English) and purely English-language courses. Most courses can be studied part-time.
