Dietmar Eckert

Dietmar Eckert (born November 13, 1913 in Posen ; † 2002 ) was a German officer, most recently a brigadier general in the Bundeswehr . He was u. a. Commander of the Army Officer School II in Hamburg.

Reichswehr

Eckert joined the Infantry Regiment 16 of the Reichswehr in Osnabrück in April 1932 as an officer candidate . In 1933 he became a group leader in Bremen. From 1933 to 1935 he completed the ensign and ensign course at the infantry school of the Reichswehr in Dresden.

In 1934/35 he was platoon leader in the 8th / (MG) Infantry Regiment 37 in Osnabrück.

Wehrmacht

Then he was an adjutant in Osnabrück and Mülheim an der Ruhr (Infantry Regiment 39). In 1938/39 he was company commander in Mülheim an der Ruhr and passed the war academy examination. In 1939/40 he was a teaching officer at the infantry school in Döberitz. In 1940 he was again adjutant in the 39th Infantry Regiment. In 1940/41 he was stationed in the 6th / 78th Artillery Regiment's weapons command. In 1941 he completed the 4th general staff course at the War Academy in Berlin. After that he was Third General Staff Officer (Ic) at XXXXII. (42nd) Army Corps and Leader German Liaison Command at VI. Romanian Corps.

This was followed by employment as a second general staff officer (Ib) in the 132nd Infantry Division . In 1942/43 he was quartermaster in the II Army Corps . In 1943 he became First General Staff Officer (Ia) there. In 1943/44 he was Ia and quartermaster at the General Command for Special Use Tiemann. In 1944 he was Ia of the 16th Air Force Field Division . In 1944/45 he was Ia in the 121st Infantry Division . In May 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets , where he remained until 1955.

In the Second World War he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class. The GDR took him to 1945 in the Brown book and called him up there as a "convicted war criminals ."

In 1956 Eckert joined the German Armed Forces and became Chief of Staff North in Hanover. From 1957 to 1959 he was G3 in Defense Area II in Hanover and from 1959 to 1963 in the Troops Office in Cologne.

From 1963 to 1965 he was in command of the Army Officer School II in Hamburg. In 1965 he became deputy commander of the 10th Panzer Division in Sigmaringen and in 1966 of the 7th Panzer Grenadier Division in Unna. 1968/69 he was for special use at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. In March 1969 he retired at his own request.
