Marie Hamsun , née Anne Marie Andersen , (born November 19, 1881 in Elverum , † August 5, 1969 in Nørholm ), was a Norwegian actress and children's book author . She was the second wife of the writer Knut Hamsun .

Life

Marie Hamsun's books about the Langerud children attained classic status , to which she was inspired by experiences with her own four children. Encouraged by her husband, who recognized her talent for writing in her letters, she wrote five volumes about the Langerud family, which are still available today.

Like her husband, Marie Hamsun also sympathized with the German National Socialists. However, her children's books contain no references to her political views.

Knut and Marie Hamsun had four children, including the painter Tore Hamsun (1912–1995), the writer Arild Hamsun (1914–1988) and the actress Ellinor Hamsun (1916–1987).
