Vinmonopolet
Vinmonopolet ( Norwegian : the wine monopoly ) is a state-owned company in Norway that is under the supervision of the Norwegian Ministry of Health and Welfare . It has the national monopoly on the sale of beverages with an alcohol content of more than 4.75 percent by volume . Alcoholic beverages with less than 4.75 percent can be purchased in normal grocery stores.
Vinmonopol was founded as a private joint-stock company under state control on November 30, 1922. Bit by bit the state bought up private shares, and the Vinmonopoly has been 100 percent state-owned since 1939.
The Vinmonopoly corresponds to the Swedish Systembolaget , the Finnish Alko , the Icelandic Vínbúðin and the Faroese Rúsdrekkasøla Landsins .
