The Helse- og omsorgsdepartementet ( HOD for short , German: Ministry of Health and Welfare ) is the Norwegian Ministry of Health , which was founded in its current form on October 1, 2004. Since October 2013 Bent Høie of the Conservative Party Høyre the health minister of Norway .

history

On November 8, 1993, the Ministry of Social Affairs ( Sosialdepartementet ) was renamed the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health ( Sosial- og helsedepartementet ). The reason for this was that from September 1992 it had been home to a minister of health as well as the minister of social affairs. On January 1, 2002, the health sector was split off from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Helsedepartementet was founded. This was given its current name Helse- og omsorgsdepartementet on October 1, 2004 after individual additional areas of responsibility were transferred from the Ministry of Social Affairs, which was converted to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, to the Ministry of Health as part of a restructuring. In January 2006, the Department of Alcohol and Drugs went to the Ministry of Health.

In 2012 the ministry moved into the government building R6 in Regjeringskvartalet . Previously, until July 2011, it was housed in the S-blokken, which was damaged in the terrorist attack in the government district .

In January 2018 an additional ministerial post was established in the Ministry of Health during the Solberg government . The office, which is intended for public health and the elderly, was held until January 2020 by the three Fremskrittspartiet politicians Åse Michaelsen , Sylvi Listhaug and Terje Søviknes . After the party's resignation from the government, the post was abolished on January 24, 2020 and the competencies were reassigned to Health Minister Bent Høie.
