The Landbruks- og matdepartementet (short: LMD), the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture and nutrition . Since January 2019, Olaug Bollestad from the Christian Democratic Kristelig Folkeparti (KrF) has been Norway's Minister of Agriculture and Food.

history

The first Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture was established on April 1, 1900. The establishment was based on a royal resolution of February 17, 1900. Before that, agricultural policy was divided between various other ministries. It has had its current name since 2004, before that it was called Landbruksdepartementet . The name change was made under the then Agriculture Minister Lars Sponheim .

In 2012, the Ministry moved into government building R6 in Regjeringskvartalet together with the Ministry of Health and Welfare .

The Landbruks- og matdepartementet is responsible for the country's agricultural and food policy. She is responsible for land management, agriculture and forestry, animal husbandry, reindeer husbandry and the development of new economic sectors in agriculture. Responsibilities are divided into three specialist departments; there is also a research and administration department and a press office.

Subordinate to the ministry are the agricultural authority Landbruksdirektoratet , the food inspectorate Mattilsynet , the environmental authority Miljødirektoratet , the bioeconomy institute Norsk institutt for bioøkonomi (NIBIO) and the biomedical research institute Veterinærinstituttet (VI). It is also responsible for the management of Graminor AS , Innovasjon Norge , Kimen Såvarelaboratoriet AS , Matmerk , Statskog SF and the research committee Norges forskningsråd .

On January 22, 2019, Olaug Bollestad from Kristelig Folkeparti took over the post of Minister of Agriculture and Food from Fremskrittspartiet politician Bård Hoksrud , who had held the post since August 2018.
