The Seven Sisters ( bokmål : De syv søstre or Sju søstre ) are a mountain formation made up of seven mountains in the municipality of Alstahaug in Nordland , Norway .

location

The Seven Sisters stretch from north to south on the island of Alsten south of Sandnessjøen .

On the west side of the coast road Fv17 runs along them, of which you can only see all the mountain peaks in a short section at the same time.

A ship gives the viewer a better view of all the mountain peaks. Among other things, the Hurtigrute runs daily on the way from Sandnessjøen to Brønnøysund along the west side of the mountains. The east side, on the other hand, can be seen from a distance on a ferry crossing from Tjøtta to Forvik.

The legend

The Seven Sisters achieved national and tourist fame, especially through the associated legend of Torghatten (for a detailed legend see there ). According to legend, there were seven virgins who prostrated themselves exhausted after being persecuted by King Hestmannen. At sunrise they turned to stone.

The mountains

The Seven Sisters consist of the following mountains (north to south):

  • Botnkrona (1072 m)
  • Grytfoten (1019 m)
  • Skjæringen (1037 m)
  • Tvillingene - German: twins (980 m and 945 m)
  • Kvasstinden (1010 m)
  • Breitinden (910 m)

All peaks can be conquered without mountaineering equipment. There are also designated parking spaces at the foot of the mountains with appropriate signs for the paths to the summit. The hike over all seven peaks is 26.1 kilometers long and has a total gradient of 3525 meters. Every now and then there are races over all seven peaks. The existing record from 2015 is 3 hours and 43 minutes.

Others
