The motor ship Finnmarken is a passenger and ro-ro ship operated by the shipping company Hurtigruten ASA , which is used in regular services on the Hurtigruten . The ship is named after Finnmark , the largest administrative district in Norway in terms of area in the far northeast of the country on the border with Russia . The current Finnmarken is the fourth Hurtigruten ship to bear this name.
history
predecessor
The first Finnmarken went into service on the Hurtigruten in 1895 and was replaced by the second ship with this name from 1912. The third Finn brand followed in 1956 . This ship is now part of the Hurtigrutenmuseum (Norwegian: Hurtigrutemuseet ) in Stokmarknes and can be viewed there.
Construction and commissioning
The current Finnmarken was built at Kleven Verft A / S in Ulsteinvik ( Norway ) under shipyard number 292. The keel was laid on November 10, 2000, the launch took place on September 15, 2001. On April 14, 2002 the ship was christened and put into service. Initially, the ship was still flying the flag and colors of the then Hurtigruten shipping company "OVDS", since the merger of the former shipping companies to form Hurtigruten ASA in 2006, she has been sailing under their flag. The construction costs amounted to around 100 million euros. The ship's home port is Narvik .
commitment
After the scheduled service on the Hurtigruten, the last southbound voyage of the Finnmarken ended on November 8, 2009 . She was chartered out by the shipping company as a hotel ship to Australia for an initial 18 months, with an option to extend it for a further 18 months. For this time the hull, which was painted in black and red, and the chimney were painted white. In February 2012 the Finnmarken returned to the liner service and replaced the Nordstjernen .
Machine system and drive
The Finnmarken diesel-mechanical drive system was developed and built by Wärtsilä . It consists of two drive trains , in which the two main motors act on variable pitch propellers via reduction gears of the type TCH 150V85-S50 and shaft systems. The engines are nine-cylinder four-stroke diesel engines of the 32 series, which develop an output of 4,140 kW (approx. 5,630 hp ) at a speed of 750 rpm . In addition to the two shaft generators , the ship is equipped with two further main generators , which are driven by six-cylinder diesel engines of the Wärtsilä series 32 with an output of 2,760 kW (approx. 3,750 hp). If required, these two diesel engines can also be coupled to the propellers via the reduction gears, so that a maximum drive power of 13,800 kW (approx. 18,760 PS) is available. An emergency generator is also installed.
To improve maneuverability, Finnmarken has two conventional transverse thrusters built in the bow by the Norwegian manufacturer Brunvoll and a retractable propeller pod , which is installed in the stern between the two propellers.
Furnishing
The ship is approved for 1,000 passengers, it has 624 beds in 285 cabins and suites, as well as 47 parking spaces. The crew is 80-85 men, with up to 85 beds in 56 cabins on deck two.
The furnishings of this ship, which is reminiscent of the Art Nouveau era , are more reminiscent of a modern cruise ship than a classic mail ship; There are two restaurants, a bistro, three lounge and viewing salons and a bar. In addition, the ship has a fitness room with sauna, a wellness center with hairdresser and three meeting or conference rooms. As the only ship in the Hurtigruten fleet to date, the Finnmarken has two outdoor whirlpools and a heated outdoor seawater swimming pool. Hospitalskip [rediger | rediger kilde]
Hospital ship
The MS Finnmarken, together with the MS Midnatsol , serves as a reserve hospital ship for the Norwegian Navy. In the event of a disaster or crisis, the ship can be converted into a floating hospital with 200 beds and space for 70 doctors and nurses within ten days. The car deck can be equipped with operating and functional rooms using prefabricated modules. Electricity and drinking water can be supplied with on-board systems, so that the ship can operate completely self-sufficient over a longer period of time. These criteria and specifications were already taken into account during the planning and construction of the ship, and the Norwegian Navy contributed to a certain proportion of the ship's construction costs.
In the media
- The Finnmark was in the two-part television documentary trolls, fjords and a mail boat to see (2007). A ZDF camera team accompanied the ship on a tour along the Norwegian coast from Bergen to Kirkenes .
