The tourist attraction is the Hurtigruten House, which not only houses a hotel in the style of a passenger ship but also the Hurtigruten Museum with the decommissioned MS Finnmarken. Stokmarknes is considered the birthplace of the Hurtigruten, as Richard With founded the Vesterålen Steamship Company there in 1881 . Accordingly, it is still one of the port stations on the line route today. The timetable makes it possible to cover the route to Svolvær , the capital of Lofoten , and back in one day by ship , while visiting the Trollfjord , which is known for its narrowness .

Once a year there is a marathon around the island, which appropriately has a circumference of 42 km. Hikes to Mount Storheia or one of the other peaks allow a wide view of the neighboring islands of Vesterålens and Lofotens.
