The Trollfjord is a ship of the Hurtigruten ASA and operates regular services on the Hurtigruten on the coast of Norway . It bears the name of the Trollfjord , a two kilometer long branch of the Raftsund that separates the Lofoten and Vesterålen archipelagos . She is the first Hurtigruten ship under this name.

history

Construction and commissioning

The Trollfjord was keeled on April 18, 2001 at the Swedish shipyard Bruces Verkstad A / B in Landskrona . After being launched on October 10, 2001, the ship was transferred to the Norwegian city of Rissa and completed on May 8, 2002 at the Fosen Mekaniske Verksteder AS shipyard . On May 14, 2002, the Trollfjord in Trondheim was christened by the Norwegian musician Kari Bremnes .

The ship was designed by Falkum Hansen Design A / S and is in a modern style, both in terms of its external appearance and interior fittings. The interior design was inspired by winter on the northern European coast. Her sister ship is the almost identical Midnatsol . In contrast to this, the Trollfjord only had two bow thrusters when the keel was laid . Since these proved to be too weak during operation, a third bow thruster was retrofitted at a later date.

commitment

In addition to its regular service on the Hurtigruten , the Trollfjord is also used for cruises in European waters from time to time.

Machine system and drive

The Trollfjord is equipped with a diesel-mechanical machine system. The two nine-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 diesel engines develop a cylinder output of 500 kW at a speed of 750 rpm . They act via reduction gear on two azimuth thruster type Ulstein / Rolls-Royce "AquaMaster Contaz 35". The specialty of these gondolas are the two coaxially arranged counter-rotating 5-blade fixed propellers with a diameter of 3.1 and 3.4 meters respectively. The gondolas can be rotated 360 ° and, with the three cross-thruster systems in the bow, enable a high degree of maneuverability. The ship also has two diesel generators and an emergency power supply.

Furnishing

The Trollfjord can accommodate 822 passengers, with 646 beds in 309 cabins available. There are 45 parking spaces for cars on the ship, which can be reached via a hydraulic loading ramp on the port side .

The on-board facilities of the Trollfjord are based on the standard of modern passenger ships. The ship has restaurants, bistros, lounge and panorama salons as well as a wellness area with fitness room and sauna. The two whirlpools on deck can be used all year round.
