Themistocles von Eckenbrecher : Raftsund near Lauksund with Trolltindan, 1906 |
The Raftsund is the waterway between Lofoten and Vesterålen . Along the sound are several houses and former trading centers, most of which have lost their central location and function after the road network was expanded. The nature along the Raftsund is still a great experience. The Trollfjord is particularly impressive .
The Raftsund is spanned in the north by the Raftsund Bridge, which is part of the mainland connection of Lofoten. The bridge opened on November 6, 1998.
The Hurtigruten ships operate through Raftsund on their way between Svolvær and Stokmarknes . When the weather is nice, they make a detour to the Trollfjord in the summer months.
On the night of September 22, 1954, the northbound Hurtigruten ship D / S Nordstjernen ran aground near Hanøy north in Raftsund, where five people lost their lives.
