The Raftsundbrua ( German  "Raftsund Bridge" ) is with 298 m span after the Stolmabrua , together with the equally wide Sundøybrua , the second widest prestressed concrete girder bridge in the world.

The road bridge opened to traffic on October 15, 1998, has two lanes and a pedestrian and cycle path on one side and crosses Europastraße 10 . It is located in the province of Nordland in Norway , about 80 km northwest of Narvik , spans the Raftsund and connects the islands of Austvågøya and Hinnøya .

construction

The 711 m long and 10.3 m wide prestressed concrete structure has four bridge fields. The spans are 86 m and 125 m at the end spans. The main openings in between span 202 m and 298 m. They were built using cantilever methods . The bridge cross-section consists of a hollow box, the height of which varies between 3.5 m in the middle of the bridge and a maximum of 14.5 m above the pillars. To reduce the weight of the superstructure, lightweight concrete of strength class LC 60 with a bulk density of 1.95 kg / dm³ was used over a length of 224 m in the middle of the large main opening .

The pillars consist of disc-shaped double columns and are up to 31.4 m high. The maximum height of the carriageway above sea level is 54.3 m. A passage opening with a clearance of 180 m and a clearance of 45 m is available for shipping.
