The Sundøybrua is a road bridge in the Norwegian municipality Leirfjord in the province of Nordland , which connects the villages Sundøy and Kvalnes in the southwestern part of the island to the mainland Alsta.

location

The villages of Sundøy and Kvalnes are cut off from the larger part of the 30 km long island of Alsta, which belongs to the municipality of Alstahaug , by the mountains of the Seven Sisters, which are over 1000 m high . The bridge performs the narrow Sundøyveien said road Fv7341 high above the strait between the Leirfjord and the Vefsnfjord. The road has no connection to the road Fv78, which passes under the bridge on the steep rocky bank, but branches 700 m inland on the highlands from a remote country road.

The greater part of the island of Alsta has been connected to the mainland via the Helgelandsbrua since 1991 . After lengthy discussions it was decided that the residents on the rear side of the island should also get a bridge to the mainland.

description

The 538 m long and 10.3 m wide Sundøybrua has two lanes and a narrow walkway on the south side. The bridge clearance is 43.5 m in an 80 m wide area. Automatic wind speed indicators are installed in front of the bridge. The overhead line to supply the villages crosses the strait diagonally above the bridge .

The bridge has a continuous, haunched prestressed - hollow box with a span of 298 m in the middle. Its construction height varies from 14.5 m on the pillars to 3 m in the middle of the field. In the middle field, high-strength lightweight concrete of strength class LC60 was used , in the side fields concrete C65.

The concrete pillars , consisting of two lamellas, stand on 9 × 14 m large foundations, which were founded on the natural rock at 16 and 19 m depth.

The bridge was planned by Aas-Jakobsen and built between 2001 and 2003.
