The Zúñiga district is located in the Cañete Province in the Lima region in central western Peru . The district was established on December 13, 1942. It has an area of ​​198.01 km². At the 2017 census, there were 1,314 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 1256, in 2007 it was 1582. The administrative center is the village of Zúñiga with 882 inhabitants located on the Río Cañete at an altitude of 802  m (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Zúñiga district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southeast of the Cañete province. The Río Cañete crosses the district to the west. Irrigated agriculture is practiced along the course of the river.

The Zúñiga district borders in the southwest on the Pacarán district , in the north on the Allauca district ( Yauyos province ) and in the southeast on the Chocos district (also in the Yauyos province).
