The district of Villa María del Triunfo is one of the 43 urban districts of the Lima Metropolitana region in Peru . It is 70.57 km² and has 398,433 inhabitants (as of 2017). In 1993 the population was 263,554, in 2007 378,470.
The district of Villa María del Triunfo borders in the north on San Juan de Miraflores , in the east on La Molina , in the south on Pachacámac and Lurín and in the west on Villa El Salvador .
history
Until the 1950s, the area of today's district, which at that time was still on the edge of the metropolis, was only sparsely populated. Villa María del Triunfo was mainly built in the 1960s and 1970s when immigrants from the Andes settled there. In the 1980s and 1990s, many families were added who had to flee from their villages in front of the Sendero Luminoso .
On December 28, 1961, Villa María del Triunfo was officially declared a municipality of Lima.
