Peter Devlin (born August 10, 1996 in London ) is an English snooker player from the London borough of Leyton. In 2020 he qualified as a professional for the Snooker Main Tour .

Career

At the age of 16 Peter Devlin first took part in the Kay Suzanne Memorial Trophy of the Players Tour Championship (PTC), an open tournament series of the Snooker Main Tour for amateurs . Two years later, he tried his hand at the tour qualification for the first time in the Q School and at least reached the group quarter-finals in the first tournament . The Q School at the start of the 2015/16 season was disappointing with two defeats to zero at the beginning, but at the Bulgarian Open he made it into the main round of a PTC tournament for the first time. He worked with a permanent trainer and moved from Walthamstow to Leytonstone, where he had the opportunity to train with the top professionals Ronnie O'Sullivan and Liang Wenbo at the legends Snooker Club . In June 2016 he won the English U21 championship and thus qualified for the international amateur championships. At the Junior World Championship he made it to the bottom 32 and at the U21 European Championship he made it to the quarter-finals, where he was defeated by the eventual finalist Jackson Page just 4: 5.

After that he continued to play at the Q School and the Players Tour Championship, but without achieving any decisive success. After all, the good result in the Q School Order of Merit gave him the opportunity to take part in the 2019 Snooker Shoot-Out . In a 1-frame match according to special rules, he won against Ross Muir at the start and won his first Main Tour prize money. In the 2019/20 season he took part in the Challenge Tour , a cross-season qualification series. However, he only reached one semi-final and did not have a sufficient overall placement in the field. At the Gibraltar Open 2020 he reached the main round of a Pro-Am tournament for the second time via qualification, but lost the opening game again. Finally, he made his breakthrough in Q School 2020 at the age of 23. In the first tournament he prevailed against the ex-professionals Kuldesh Johal and Thor Chuan Leong with 4-2 each and won the decisive qualifying game against John Astley with the same result. This enabled him to take part in the professional tour in the following two seasons.
