Michael Thomas (born March 8, 1988 in Olathe , Kansas ) is an American football player .
Career
Thomas played 83 games for the University of Notre Dame college team from 2006 to 2009 . The midfielder spent the season breaks in the USL Premier Development League with Kansas City Brass and came across four seasons on 13 missions. In the MLS SuperDraft 2010 he was drafted in the 2nd round in a total of 19th place by the San José Earthquakes , but he decided against a career in Major League Soccer and in early 2010 went to the Swedish first division club Halmstads BK for a trial . There he finally received a short-term contract until the summer of 2010 and meets there with Ryan Miller on a former teammate from college.
He made his professional debut on March 22, 2010, the 2nd matchday, in a 6-0 away defeat against IF Elfsborg . In the following weeks he came to another four league appearances for Halmstads, but the club decided against a contract extension in the summer and instead equipped the youth player Joakim Wrele with a professional contract. A short time later, Thomas signed a contract with the second division club Ljungskile SK until the end of the season. With Ljungskile SK he was in 47 league games on the field and scored eight goals.
In January 2012, Thomas returned to his homeland and signed a contract with Sporting Kansas City .
