Olathe is a suburb of Kansas City , part of the metropolitan area of Kansas City and the seat of the county seat of Johnson County , Kansas .
Because of the strong influx from Kansas City, the population rose from approx. 37,000 (1980) to 135,000 (2016), according to the US Census Bureau. This makes the city the fourth largest in the state. The name comes from Indian, more precisely from Shawnee, and means "beautiful".
history
Olathe was born at the beginning of 1857 by Dr. John T. Barton founded. Olathe wasn't the first town in the county, but it was the largest thanks to a newly built railroad. In the 1950s, a highway was built from Kansas City to Olathe. Today Olathe is the fastest growing city in the state of Kansas.
