Carl E. Banks (* 29. August 1962 in Flint , Michigan ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the linebackers . He played from 1984 to 1995 for the New York Giants , the Washington Redskins and the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League (NFL). With the Giants, Banks won the Super Bowl twice .
college
Banks played college football at Michigan State University from 1980 to 1983 . Here he was chosen three times as one of the best players in the Big Ten Conference and in his senior year as an All-American .
NFL
In 1984 he was selected as the third player in the first round of the NFL Draft by the New York Giants . Since the team already had very good linebackers, including Hall of Fame players Lawrence Taylor and Harry Carson , it was not until the 1986 season that then Head Coach Bill Parcells called Banks permanently into the starting line-up. After the season he won Super Bowl XXI with the Giants and Super Bowl XXV four years later . He scored 627 tackles and 36 sacks during this time . In the 1987 season he was named to the Pro Bowl .
In 1993 he moved to the Washington Redskins . He then played from 1994 to 1995 for the Cleveland Browns , where he also ended his career.
In total, Banks scored 826 tackles, 39.5 sacks and three interceptions in his career , one of which he was able to carry back to the touchdown . For his accomplishments, he was elected to the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team .
After the professional career
Together with Harry Carson and other former NFL players, he owned shares in the New Jersey Red Dogs , a team in the Arena Football League . In 1997 he worked under Bill Parcells as responsible for player development for the New York Jets . He is currently working as an NFL analyst for a radio station.
