Edward Peter Eddie Murray (born August 29, 1956 in Halifax , Nova Scotia , Canada ), nickname : Money is a retired American football player. He played as a kicker in the National Football League (NFL).
youth
Eddie Murray was born in Halifax and attended in Victoria the high school . He played Canadian football in school . After graduating from school, he first worked for a year in the Canadian timber industry. A Canadian coach from Tulane University , however, had become aware of the talented football player and Murray joined this college .
Player career
College career
Eddie Murray's achievements helped Tulane Green Waves to eight wins and three losses in 1977. No college team from Tulane has achieved this feat to date . In 1978 and 1979 he was elected All American , and in 1979 he was elected to the state selection of Louisiana . Despite two field goals scored by him, the Tulane Green Waves lost the 1979 Liberty Bowl against the Pennsylvania State University team 9: 6.
Professional career
Eddie Murray was in 1980 in the seventh round at the 166th place of the Detroit Lions drafted . He turned down an offer from the Hamilton Tiger Cats from the Canadian Football League (CFL). In 1983 he was able to move into the play-offs with his team from Detroit, trained by Monte Clark , where they failed early at the San Francisco 49ers with 24:23. Murray had not been able to prevent the defeat of the team with three field goals. During the 1991 regular season , the Lions won twelve of sixteen games and met after a 38: 6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional play-off game in the subsequent NFC Championship Game on the Washington Redskins . Murray managed a field goal against the Redskins, but the Lions went off with a 41:10 defeat. After that season, Murray left the Lions and was replaced by Jason Hanson .
Eddie Murray came to the Dallas Cowboys through the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . The cowboys around Troy Aikman , Emmitt Smith and Jay Novacek was the reigning Super Bowl winner. Murray celebrated his greatest success with the team from Dallas . After twelve wins and four losses in the 1993 season , the Cowboys met in the Divisional Play-Off game on the Green Bay Packers . With the support of Murray, who scored two field goals, the Cowboys won 27:17. This win was followed by a 38:21 against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. Murray contributed a field goal to the Cowboys victory. The Cowboys then prevailed against the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVIII at 30:13 . Also in this game Murray was successful with two field goals. After further seasons in Dallas, the Philadelphia Eagles , the Minnesota Vikings and the Washington Redskins, Murray ended his career after the 2000 season .
Honors
Edward Murray played twice in the Pro Bowl , the final game of the best players of the season. In 1980 he was elected to the Pro Bowl MVP after the game . He was also voted All-Pro six times . He won the PFW Golden Toe Award in 1989 for best kicker of the season. Murray is also a member of the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team and the Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame . With 1,594 points he is in 16th place on the all-time NFL leaderboard.
After the career
Eddie Murray is married with one daughter. He lives in Detroit and runs a freight company there.
