Dwight Eugene Stephenson (born November 20, 1957 in Murfreesboro , North Carolina ) is a former NFL center . After his college career ( Alabama ) he played for the Miami Dolphins from 1980 to 1987 . Stephenson has been voted Offensive Lineman of the Year several times for his athletic achievements and is considered the best center player of his time. Because of an injury to his left knee, he had to end his professional career in 1987. In 1998, Stephenson entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame .
