The Austin Aztex Football Club was an American football franchise of the United Soccer League from Austin , Texas .

The team was founded in 2011 and played in the USL Premier Development League until the 2014 season . In the 2015 season, the Aztex played in the USL Pro . In early 2016, it was announced that the franchise would not compete in the 2016 season due to problems with the stadium. It was planned that the franchise would start playing again for the 2017 season, but this was not implemented. In September 2017, the USL announced that a new Austin franchise would be added to the league for the 2019 season.

history

USL Premier Development League (2012-2014)

The Austin Aztex were founded in 2011 by David Markley. Markley was previously a co-owner of Austin Aztex , which played in the USSF Division 2 Professional League until the end of the 2010 season . That franchise was then renamed Orlando City SC .

In September 2011 Markley announced that he wanted to found a new franchise under the name Austin Aztex, which then played in the USL PDL from the 2012 season. The new Aztexs played their first game on May 5, 2012 and won it against the Texas Dutch Lions. The regular season ended with second place in the Mid-South Division. In the play-offs, the Texans were eliminated in the Conference Finals.

In 2013 the regular season ended with first place in the Mid-South Division. In the subsequent play-offs, the Aztex reached the final, where they beat Thunder Bay Chill 3-1.

The 2014 season also ended with a first place in the division. However, the team lost the Conference Final.

USL Pro

For the 2015 season the team will switch to the higher class USL Pro.

Stadion

The home games are played in House Park. The American football stadium holds 6,500 spectators.
