The Subaru Park is a football stadium in the US city of Chester , Pennsylvania . It has been the home of the Philadelphia Union football franchise from Major League Soccer (MLS) since it opened . The farm team Bethlehem Steel FC, only Philadelphia Union II , has also been playing in the stadium since 2019 .
history
In October 2007, before the MLS decided in favor of Philadelphia , Delaware County gave its approval for the stadium to be built.
The stadium is right on the Delaware River , on the southwest corner of the Commodore Barry Bridge . The stadium was built by the TN Ward Company.
The stadium holds a total of 18,500 spectators. In early 2010, Pennsylvania Power and Light secured the naming rights to the stadium for eleven years.
The foundation stone was laid on December 1, 2008. Due to delays in construction, Philadelphia Union first had to play the first season games of the premier season at Lincoln Financial Field , before the stadium on June 27, 2010 with a 3-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC opened.
On November 30, 2015, the Philadelphia Union announced that PPL Park would be renamed Talen Energy Stadium. The energy supply company Talen Energy was spun off from PPL Corporation and re-established in 2015. Further information on the agreement was not disclosed.
After the sponsorship deal between the Union and Talen Energy expired in 2020, Subaru of America was announced as the new sponsor on February 18, 2020.

Soccer
The Talen Energy Stadium is primarily the home of the Philadelphia Union MLS franchise. The first game took place here on June 27, 2010 against the Seattle Sounders . Sébastien Le Toux scored the first goal in the stadium. In addition to the games in the MLS, the park hosted the MLS All-Star Games against Chelsea in 2012 . That game saw 19,236 people in the stadium and it ended 3-2 for the All Stars. At the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2015 , the game for third place took place here. The national teams of the USA and Panama separated 1: 1 after regular time. Panama later won 3-2 on penalties.
Since the season in 2019 playing farm team of Philadelphia Union, the Philadelphia Union II (before 2020 as Bethlehem Steel FC known), its home games in the USL Championship in the stadium.
Rugby union
The Collegiate Rugby Championship has been held every June since 2011. This tournament is one of the most important in the national college rugby sport and is broadcast nationwide on NBC .
On November 9, 2013, the stadium was the site of a friendly match between the rugby national teams of the USA and New Zealand, the so-called Māori All Blacks . The New Zealanders won 29:19.
lacrosse
In 2012, two quarter-finals of the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship 2012 took place in PPL Park . On August 25, 2013, the final of the Major League Lacrosse , the Steinfeld Cup, was held in the stadium. The Chesapeake Bayhawks were able to win 10: 9 against the Charlotte Hounds . This game was watched by 3,892 people in the stadium. The ACC Lacrosse Championship took place here in April 2015.
Furnishing
A special entrance was created for the Sons of Ben fan group. This entrance leads directly into the area where the Sons stay during Union home games. This is designed for 2,000 spectators. In addition to 30 VIP boxes, the stadium also has a restaurant, an extendable concert stage and special safety precautions for visitors. Furthermore, 60% of the audience can watch the Commodore Barry Bridge and the Delaware River from their seats. The outer facade of the PPL Park consists of brick and natural stone, which reflects the typical architecture in Philadelphia. The services within the stadium are provided by Comcast Spectacor based in Philadelphia. The Panasonic Corporation , one of the main sponsors of the stadium, the entire electronic infrastructure.
Directions
Like the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, Talen Energy Stadium is off Interstate 95. Highland Avenue and Chester Transportation Center train stations are nearby (1–2 km). The Philadelphia International Airport is 8 km away from the stadium. SEPTA buses run to the stadium every hour .
