The Major League Lacrosse is a semi-professional men's lacrosse league in the USA .
The league currently consists of nine US franchises . From 2009 to 2013 a Canadian team was represented by the Toronto Nationals and Hamilton Nationals .
history
The MLL began operating in June 2001. It was founded in 1999 by Jake Steinfeld, Dave Morrow and Tim Robertson.
The season runs from April to August. The usual rules are not played; the additional rules are:
- Two-point goal: A goal scored behind the two-point goal line (16 yards from the respective goal) counts twice
- 60-second shot on goal: If the team in possession of the ball has not shot at goal after 60 seconds, the ball changes teams
- There may only be three long sticks per team on the field (four since 2009).
The league is broadcast on the American sports channel ESPN 2. On March 14, 2007, the contract was signed, which provides that the station broadcasts the games of the MLL until 2016.
Since this is a semi-professional league, players earn between $ 10,000 and $ 25,000. For this reason, most players still have an additional job.
