The Hamilton Nationals were a professional Lacrosse - Franchise from Hamilton in Canada . From 2009 to 2013 they were a member of the Major League Lacrosse (MLL). The Nationals are the only MLL franchise from Canada to date.
In 2009 the Toronto Nationals were founded. They were the first Canadian team in the MLL. In 2011 the Nationals moved to Hamilton.
history
The Nationals were founded in 2009 as part of the Rochester Rattlers . Even the players from Rochester were sent to Toronto for the new Nationals. The team colors and the team name remained in Rochester, however, in case another team should settle in Rochester. In November 2010, the Chicago Machines moved to Rochester and received the name and team colors of the Rattlers.
The Nationals won their first home game against the Washington Bayhawks in the MLL on May 9, 2009 at 5:16 pm. They won their first home game against the Chicago Machine with 15:11. They qualified for the playoffs with the best attack and 184 goals in the first year. They played their first playoff game against the Long Island Lizards and eventually won 14:13 thanks to Merrick Thompson, who scored four goals. In the finals they met the Denver Outlaws . One minute before the end of the game it was 9: 9. Shawn Williams scored 45 seconds before the end of the game and the Nationals won their first championship 10-9.
On March 3, 2011, the Toronto Nationals announced that they were moving to Hamilton and renaming themselves "Hamilton Nationals". It was also announced that Arrow Express Sports would take over the Nationals completely, that the Nationals would play their home games at Ron Joyce Stadium on the grounds of McMaster University in Hamilton, and that Jody Gage would be the new general manager and Regy Thorpe would be the new head coach.
In November 2013, the Nationals announced that they would not participate in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse season. Most of the players switched to the new Florida Launch team . The team was supposed to return to the MLL in 2015, but this has not yet happened.
