Sainey Nyassi (born January 31, 1989 in Bwiam ) is a Gambian football player who is active as a midfielder for the Canadian NASL franchise FC Edmonton .

Club career

After performing well at the U-20 World Cup in 2007 , he signed a contract with New England Revolution in September 2007 with his Gambian team-mate Abdoulie Mansally .

He made his league debut on September 9, 2007 in the game against DC United , when he was substituted on in the 82nd minute. He scored his first goal on March 29, 2008 in a 3-0 win over Houston Dynamo . At the beginning of the 2013 season, he moved to league rivals DC United after a total of 104 league games and eight goals for New England Revolution. He played a total of 14 times for DC.

In June 2014 Nyassi moved to the Finnish Veikkausliiga to Rovaniemi PS .

National team

So far, Nyassi has played for the various youth teams of Gambis. He took part in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. In 2010 he was also active for the Gambian national soccer team and scored his first goal in the World Cup qualifier against Namibia.

Private

His twin brother, Sanna Nyassi , plays Major League Soccer with the San Jose Earthquakes .
