Sanna Nyassi (born January 31, 1989 in Bwiam ) is a Gambian football player who was active for San José Earthquakes in Major League Soccer until 2016 . His twin brother Sainey plays for the Finnish club Rovaniemi PS .

Career

society

Sanna Nyassi began his youth career in 2001 at Gambia Ports Authority FC until he moved up to the professional team in 2005. With Gambia Ports he managed to win the GFA League First Division in 2006 and the GFA Cup in 2007. In 2007, his performance with the Gambian U-20 national team attracted the attention of some major league soccer clubs . So he completed a trial training with his twin brother at New England Revolution , where only his brother was signed. After a trial session with the Seattle Sounders franchise , which was founded for the new season , he was offered a contract. However, he still played the rest of the MLS season for Seattle Sounders, the predecessor club, which was dissolved after the 2008 season and completed four league games there. On March 20, 2009 he made his debut for the newly formed Sounders, in the 3-0 win over the New York Red Bulls he started in the starting line-up and was replaced in the middle of the second half. Nyassi completed his first full MLS season by winning the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup . In the final, DC United was defeated 2-1. When the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup was held in 2010, he reached the finals again with the Sounders. On October 5, 2010, Nyassi scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew and thus Seattle were able to defend the title in their only two-year club existence.

On November 24, 2010, he was selected as the first pick in the 2010 MLS Expansion Draft by the Vancouver Whitecaps , but he was soon transferred to the Colorado Rapids . On July 21, 2011, he managed a hat trick in a 4-1 home win over the New York Red Bulls.

In the 2011 MLS Expansion Draft, he was selected as a “pick” by Montreal Impact . He has been competing for the Canadians since Impact took part in the MLS at the beginning of the 2012 season . In his first season he was able to score six goals in 28 games; in the 2013 season he scored a goal in 22 games.

National team

Nyassi played in 2005 for the Gambian U-17 national team and took part with this in the U-17 African championship and in the U-17 World Cup in Peru . At the African Cup of Nations, he scored the decisive goal in the 1-0 win against Burkina Faso in the group stage. With Ousman Jallow's 1-0 winner in the final against Ghana, Gambia won their first ever title. At the World Cup, Gambia was eliminated in a strong group with Brazil and the Netherlands only because of the goal difference and they managed an unbelievable 3-2 win against eventual runner-up Brazil. Nyassi was used in all three group matches.

He also worked for the U-20 national team at the U-20 World Cup in 2007 . In the first group game against Mexico (0: 3) he played from the 65th minute, as well as in the sixteenth-finals in the 1: 2 defeat against Austria for five minutes.

On September 4, 2010, he played his first international A match against Namibia , right from the start and also scored his first international goal. Less than a month later, he played his second and so far last international match against Burkina Faso (1: 3).
