history

The Cuban Football Association was founded in 1912 by Cuban students and has been a member of FIFA since 1932 . In 1961 the ADFDC joined CONCACAF . After the Cuban Revolution , it was incorporated into the Instituto Nacional de Deportes Educación Física y Recreación (INDER - National Institute for Physical Culture, Sport and Recreation). The organization of match operations, the national team of Cuba and the management of the officials is the task of the ADFDC, but the promotion of football and the organization of school sports is the task of the INDER.

Escape problem

As in other sports, officials and athletes regularly stay in the host country after international competitions. More than 20 Cubans used qualifying games for World Championships and Olympic Games in the USA and Canada as well as the Gold Cups in 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2009 to leave the country. Players from foreign leagues such as Eviel Cordovés , Maykel Chang , Odisnel Cooper , Maykel Galindo , Yordany Álvarez or Osvaldo Alonso have not been nominated since they left. Selected top athletes have been able to earn money abroad since 2014. The government also decided that coaches will be allowed to hire in the major leagues in the future. The only restrictions are that the top athletes always have to return to international tournaments in Cuba or be available for the national teams. They are also obliged to pay taxes in Cuba. They are allowed to keep 80 percent of the prize money that Cuban athletes receive abroad. So far they have only had 20 percent. By opening up sport, the government not only wants to earn money from the lucrative contracts of athletes abroad, but also prevent well-known athletes or entire teams from fleeing.
