Career

Beginning in Cuba

Alonso began playing football at FC Pinar del Río , who played in the Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol de Cuba and were Cuban champions at the end of the 2006/07 season.

Change to the USA

During the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2007 , in which he took part with the national team, he moved to the USA. He then completed a trial training at CD Chivas USA . They offered him a developmental contract with a salary of $ 12,900. But Alonso decided on an offer from Charleston Battery , as he was of the opinion that he could get more seasons in the USL First Division at the time. In his first season he was able to impress with strong performances. He scored seven goals in 31 games for Charleston and was named the season's best player. The league also honored him as the best newcomer of the year.

For the 2009 season he was signed by the Seattle Sounders and secured a regular place in defensive midfield at the club in Major League Soccer . In the years to come, he was able to draw attention to himself again and again through his consistent manner in midfield and received various honors for his achievements.

National team

During the qualifying games for the 2008 Summer Olympics , he was the captain of the Cuban U-23 national team. He made his debut for the Cuban national soccer team in September 2006 in a game against the national soccer team of the Turks and Caicos Islands , which was played as part of the 2007 Caribbean soccer championship . He played his last game for Cuba so far during the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup .

After his emigration to the USA he was no longer nominated by the Cuban Association.
