John Cooper (racing driver)
John Cooper (born April 30, 1948 in Wolverhampton ) is a former British racing driver .
Career in motorsport
There is more than one person in British motorsport who goes by the name of John Cooper. In addition to the automobile racing driver John Cooper, the son of Charles Cooper , the founder of the Cooper Car Company and the motorcycle racer bear this name.
At the end of the 1970s, Cooper was involved in the Aurora AFX Formula 1 series . In 1978 he reached eighth place overall in the series. His best ranking in a race was third on a Williams FW05 at the International Gold Cup . In 1979 he finished the season 19th overall.
In the 1980s, Cooper mainly drove sports car races . Between 1975 and 1987 he competed ten times in the Le Mans 24-hour race . In 1981 he finished fourth overall with Dudley Wood and Claude Bourgoignie in a Porsche 935K3 and won the group 5 racing class . In 1983 he won the Thundersports Brands Hatch with partner Ray Mallock . 1981 he was in the World Sportscar Championship scoring 6-hour race at Mugello second.
