Loris Kessel (born April 1, 1950 in Lugano ; † May 15, 2010 in Montagnola , Canton Ticino ) was a Swiss automobile racing driver . In 1976 and 1977 he was registered for a total of six Formula 1 races, but was only able to qualify three times.

Career

In the 1976 season Kessel was to take part in five Grand Prix for the British team RAM Racing , but qualified for only three. His only finish was twelfth place in the Belgian Grand Prix on the Circuit Zolder . The emergency vehicle was a Brabham BT44, which RAM had obtained as a customer car.

In 1977 Kessel entered the Italian Grand Prix with an Apollon-Williams FW03  - a modified Williams FW03  - but failed to qualify for the race. Races at the Grand Prix of Belgium, France, Austria and the Netherlands had already been planned, which had to be canceled each time due to difficulties in transporting the vehicle. Kessel's last participation in a Formula 1 weekend was in the Apollon.

After his short Formula 1 career, Kessel occasionally took part in rallies and hill climbs. When he took part in the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1993 , he finished seventh in the overall standings in a Porsche 962 .

Most recently, Loris Kessel ran a car dealership in his hometown of Lugano and was the owner of the “Loris Kessel Racing Car” team founded in 2000, with which he took part in the Ferrari Challenge and the FIA GT3 European Championship.

On May 15, 2010, Loris Kessel died of leukemia.
