Roman Šmucler (born July 8, 1969 in Prague ) is a Czech dentist, oral surgeon, university lecturer, entrepreneur, moderator and screenwriter.

Studies and medical activity

Šmucler attended high school in Příbram and completed his medical studies from 1987 to 1992 in Prague. In 1995 he passed the first and in 2002 the second license examination in the field of dentistry . In 2002 he was awarded the title of Candidate in Science (CSc.). He completed his habilitation at the Charles University in Prague in the field of stomatology with the text Therapeutic use of lasers in orofacial oncology . He was appointed lecturer in 2010.

Since 1992 he has been working at the stomatological clinic of the 1st medical faculty as well as in the General University Hospital in Prague. He is the head physician of the Center for Photonic Medicine (also as head of training in English).

The use of lasers is one of his main areas of research. He completed specialist internships in Boston, Paris, Uppsala, Soul, New York and Vienna. At the Medical Faculty in Pilsen he is engaged in research on laser treatment of oncological diseases. He also works with New York University (College of Dentistry) and works at the Na Pleši Institute of Oncology and Rehabilitation . He also conducts research in the field of dental implants and dentoalveolar surgery.

Šmucler is a member of Czech and international professional societies. Among other things, he has been a member since 1996 and since 2013 chairman of the Society for the Use of Lasers in Medicine of the Czech Society for Aesthetic and Laser Medicine (formerly Jan Evangelista Purkyně Society ).

He has published specialist articles and monographs, participates in specialist programs on television and radio and gives international lectures.

Media career

In a Czech literary competition, Šmucler won second place in 1986 and first and second place in 1987. In 1989, together with Robert Tamchyna and Martin Ondráček, he won the competition for the microforum ( Czech radio ). He was part of the team at the new federal station E + M and took part in a revolutionary program in 1989. He moderated the microforum and participated in the broadcast Nočnílinka Microfóra (Microforum Night Line ). Since 1991 he has moderated the studio Kontakt on Czech television as well as other programs - including 1992 and 1993 Miss Československa (Miss Czechoslovakia).

In 1994 he moderated the first direct broadcast of the television station TV Nova and the programs Uzel (knot), Proč? (Why?), Tabu and 1 proti 100 (1 against 100). He was the author of the program Tabu, which was also broadcast abroad. He also appeared in the programs Zlatá mříž (Golden Grid), Miss desetiletí (Miss Decade) and the New Year's Eve program. He worked for the television station Nova until 2005. In 2008 he hosted the program Milionář (Millionaire) on Prima TV . Since 2013 he has been moderating the nightly microforum on the Czech radio station 2 and worked on the Czech television program " Nejchytřejší Čech " (The Smartest Czech). Since 1992 he has been a freelance producer for television programs.

Entrepreneurial activity

In 1996, Šmucler founded Asklepion-Lasercentrum Praha sro .

This company operates a non-state health facility, which has developed from a laser center specializing in aesthetic laser medicine to a multi-specialist institute for aesthetic medicine in Prague with several branches. The company has practices abroad, where around 40% of patients are treated. The company contributed to the creation of health facilities, which it then sold to other operators or founded them primarily for other legal entities (also abroad). Subsidiaries were gradually established, which specialize in trade, medical training and the manufacture of cosmetic products. In 2008 the company acquired a share in the Institute for Oncology and Rehabilitation Na Pleši, sro . It was also acquired in 2008 through Asklepion SG Hospital, sro . (together with the SUDOP Group, a partner of Asklepion) acquired the majority share in the Mariánské Lázně Municipal Hospital, which it later sold.

politics

In 2009 he was named the top candidate of the political party TOP 09 for the Karlovy Vary Region for the elections to the House of Representatives of the Czech Republic, which did not take place in October 2009. He resigned from this top candidate in January 2010 for reasons of time.

family

His divorced wife is Libuše Šmuclerová. They have a daughter together.

Awards

In 2009, together with Jiří Mazánek and Marek Vlk, he was awarded the 2008 Medical Research Prize. He has also received prizes for lectures at medical congresses abroad. In 2005, he took 2nd place in the ANNO and TýTý (Most Popular TV Shows and Faces) surveys.
