Jack Hawksworth (born February 28, 1991 in Bradford ) is a British automobile racing driver . He won the Star Mazda Series in 2012 . He started in the IndyCar Series from 2014 to 2016 .

Career

Hawksworth began his motorsport career in karting in 2004 , where he was active until 2011. In 2010 he started in formula racing for the first time. He immediately finished third in the British Formula Renault winter series . In 2011 Hawksworth took part in the British Formula Renault for two different teams. He won a race and finished the season in fourth place in the drivers' standings.

In 2012 Hawksworth decided to move to North America. He competed for the Pelfrey team in the Star Mazda Series . He achieved second place at the start of the season and won the second race. In total, he won eight of 17 races and secured the championship title early, so that he did not take part in the last race. Hawksworth set new records for wins (8) and pole positions (10) in one season in the series. As a bonus for winning the title Hawksworth received 600,000 US dollars . In 2013 Hawksworth rose to the Indy Lights . He received a cockpit at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports . Hawksworth won the season opener in Saint Petersburg and won two more races in the further course of the season. With a total of six podium finishes, he finished the season in fourth place. Internally, he was defeated by his teammates Sage Karam and Gabby Chaves , who occupied the first two positions. Hawksworth took part in IndyCar Series test drives for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Dale Coyne Racing in the second half of the year .

In 2014 Hawksworth received an IndyCar cockpit from Bryan Herta Autosport . After he had a starting position in the top 10 in the first two races, he started from second place in the fourth race, the Grand Prix of Indianapolis . He achieved the most leading laps and crossed the finish line in seventh place for the first time in the top 10. At the second race in Houston Hawksworth achieved his first podium with a third place. One race later in Long Pond he had a serious accident in second practice. He suffered a heart contusion and dropped out for the race. Hawksworth finished the season in 17th place in the drivers' championship. Hawksworth also contested four races in the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) for RSR Racing in 2014 . Together with Chris Cumming , he once won the PC class. He also started a race in the Dunlop TVR Challenge in 2014 . In 2015 , Hawksworth joined AJ Foyt Enterprises within the IndyCar Series . With two seventh places as the best placements, he reached 17th place overall, as in the previous year. He also took part in a race in the 2015 United SportsCar Championship for RSR Racing . In the IndyCar Series in 2016 Hawksworth stayed with AJ Foyt Enterprises. As the only driver to compete in every race, he never made it into the top 10. He finished the season in 20th place in the drivers' standings, making him the worst-placed driver to take part in every event.
