The administrative community was formed on January 1, 2005 from the dissolved administrative communities Schwanebeck and Untere Bode . 8,880 inhabitants lived in an area of ​​127.88 km² (as of December 31, 2008). The last administrative manager was Udo Haase.

On January 1, 2010, the administrative community was dissolved. Together with the communities of Ditfurt , Hausneindorf , Hedersleben , Heteborn and Wedderstedt from the Ballenstedt / Bode-Selke-Aue administrative community, which was also dissolved , the Vorharz community was founded. Nienhagen was incorporated into Schwanebeck.
