history

The origin of the name is not clear. On the one hand, it is understood as a modification of the Hedwigsbrunnen. On the other hand, Hete is a modification of the Old High German word 'hadu', which means 'fight' or 'war' and probably refers to fights for the distant well or born (Heteborn itself has no water source). Evidently there were trials in the years 1816–1844 for water rights in the village pond, which is fed from the well in different amounts depending on the season.

Heteborn was founded in 936. A document, which was confirmed in papal documents in 1207 and 1227, indicates that Margrave Gero gave the village to the Gernrode monastery in 964 . However, this will only have been a part of the fact that in 936 his brother Siegfried gave the village or another part of it to Corvey and the monastery in Gröningen.

Pulpit of the village church (2010)

In 1636, Heteborn was almost completely destroyed by looting and fire, only the hunting lodge of Bishop Heinrich Julius was the only one that remained intact. The church could not be consecrated until the Sunday after Trinity 1716 by Pastor Lankfeld (Gröningen). The altar donated by today's Nikolaikirche Quedlinburg was set up in the Rodersdorf church. A senior magistrate from Gröningen donated the pulpit, confessional and large court chair.

The Hakel, which belongs to the Heteborn district, belonged to around 784 hectares in 1948.

In 1833 68 house numbers were counted. In 1841 there were two innkeepers, 1 merchant, 2 tailors, 2 linen weavers, 1 carpenter, 1 shoemaker, 1 windmill, 1 sheep master, 2 shepherds and 1 cantor in addition to the church, school, community bakery, royal domain and the royal forest.

On October 17, 1928, the main part of the estate district of Heteborn domain was united with the rural community of Heteborn. The rest (parcel 197 of map sheet 4 of the Gröningen monastery district) was merged with the Gröningen monastery rural community. A few weeks later, on December 1, 1928, the estate district of Heteborn, Forst was merged with the rural community of Heteborn.

On April 12, 1950, Heteborn received its own local statute.

The agricultural production cooperative Heteborn ("LPG Heteborn") was founded in 1952, and in 1960 it became fully cooperative. Then they specialized in the areas of plant and animal production and in 1970 merged with LPG Hedersleben to form LPG Tierproduktion Edwin Hoernle Hedersleben . With the political change in 1989 the LPG animal production was liquidated and the LPG plant production was converted into the Agrargenossenschaft eG Hedersleben .

Since it was accepted into the village renewal program in 1993, numerous streets and squares have been fundamentally renovated.
