Wedderstedt is a district of the municipality of Selke-Aue in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Wedderstedt is about 12 kilometers northeast of the district town of Quedlinburg an der Bode .

history

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent communities Wedderstedt and Hausneindorf merged to form the new community Selke-Aue. At the same time, the municipality of Heteborn was incorporated into Selke-Aue.

badges and flags

The coat of arms was approved on March 26, 2003 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.

Blazon : "In silver on a blue hill covered with a golden fibula, a blue, black-jointed, broad-roofed tower, in the upper part covered with a silver rose with black sepals on which a red heart covered with a silver cross lies."

The colors of the district are blue and white.

The beginnings of the community, formerly mentioned as “lüttken wederstede”, probably date back to the time when the Cherusci entered the Harz foreland. From a body grave of an adult woman from the 4th century AD that was recovered in 1996 in the area of Hosikenberg (gravel pit), a number of clasps (fibulae) were recovered along with several other additions. One of these artfully crafted pieces was taken into account as a coat of arms in the base of the municipal coat of arms. The main symbol is the stylized tower of the church ruins that still exist today. Wedderstedt was one of the villages whose residents enthusiastically embraced Luther's teaching. As shown in the church register, a former resident of the place called Westphal was a contemporary of the reformer and studied in Wittenberg. The reproduction of the Luther rose is intended to refer to this historically significant event.

The coat of arms was designed by Karl-Heinz Fritze.

The flag is striped white - blue - white (1: 2.5: 1) and has the municipality's coat of arms placed in the middle.

traffic

Wedderstedt is north of the federal highway 6 , which runs between Wernigerode and Aschersleben .

The bus line 235 of the Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe is available as public transport, which connects Quedlinburg with Gatersleben and serves three stops in town.

Buildings

The Wedderstedt village church, which dates from the Middle Ages, has only been preserved as a ruin. Also noteworthy is the Wedderstedt mansion from 1893, which is located directly on the main street and which is used today as a community administration, and the Dorfkrug in the center of the village .
