Josef Beischer

Josef Beischer (born January 25, 1927 in Sankt Ottilien , Eresing municipality in Bavaria) is a German conductor and composer.

Beischer received his musical training in Munich, including at the Handel Conservatory . From 1950 he worked as a conductor and choir director at various opera houses, including in Lübeck , at the Bavarian State Opera and in the Darmstadt State Theater . He has taught at conservatoires and translated Italian operas for music publishers.

As a composer he appeared with songs, drama music, stage and choral works, including the musicals Jim and Jill (1959) and Glorious Times (1962). His “Bavarian Volksmesse” In der Wies with text by Wolfgang Johannes Bekh was premiered in 1974 in the Wieskirche . His last work so far was the Fürstenfelder Messe , premiered on April 16, 2001 in St. Mary's Assumption in Fürstenfeldbruck ; the radio broadcast took place under his direction on November 1, 2001 live from St. Stephan in Munich. In 1992 he received the Johann Heinrich Merck Honor from the city of Darmstadt .

Beischer lives in Munich and works as a conductor, pianist and accompanist. His legacy is under Mus.N. 132 in the music department of the Bavarian State Library in Munich.
