Alexander Merkulov
Alexander Merkulov ( Russian Александр Юрьевич Меркулов Alexander Jurjewitsch Merkulow ; born June 17, 1963 , Pskow , Soviet Union ) is a Russian pianist and composer living in Germany .
Career
Merkulov was born into a musical family and began taking piano lessons at the city music school in Pskov at a young age . Then followed the music college education at the Latvian Music Academy Jāzeps Vītols in Riga as a pianist with state examination in 1989 and at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory "NA Rimsky-Korsakow" as a composer with a degree in 1996. In 1999 Merkulov became a member of the Russian Composers' Association, and from 2000 to 2002 he was Head of the Department of the Composers' Union in Pskov. Some of his piano, choir and chamber music works have been published. Merkulov has lived in Essen since 2002 . He performs as a solo pianist , chamber musician, accompanist and works as a piano teacher.

The main focus of his work is on numerous piano works that have been published in two volumes in Russia. His work also includes symphony, chamber music, choral works, songs and pop songs. His compositional style is characterized by the combination of characteristics and expressiveness of late romanticism (this particularly characterizes his earliest works) and elements of the most modern styles of music and composition techniques ( dodecaphony , jazz , New Age , etc.).
